Sentosa Getaway

We were looking for a place to go for a holiday and a visit to our travel agent in early March had us book a flight to Singapore with three nights’ stay at Sentosa Resorts World!

As we soon found out, Sentosa is a great getaway with many interesting sights and wonderful scenery. No wonder it is dubbed "Asia's Favourite Playground".

We stayed at the Festive Hotel which is within walking distance of the restaurants, shops and other attractions. There is a wide choice of food available at the Festive Walk and we opted for a different cuisine every day!

I loved especially the chocolate and candy shops which had everything sweet under the sun. I was sorely tempted to buy all the goodies that I liked but resisted after thinking of my waistline!!

Sentosa is a great place for walking and getting your body in shape! Unfortunately, we couldn’t cover all the sights during our stay. Mum was particularly thrilled to see the cable cars from the window of our hotel room but didn't feel brave enough for a ride! Among the sights we enjoyed was the Lake of Dreams where we saw a delightful "dance of the fountains".

We also took advantage of the hotel’s free shuttle service into Singapore for shopping at Orchard Road. In addition, we did a city tour which took us to a few interesting places like Little India, the National Orchid Garden and the Singapore Flyer.

I enjoyed the Orchid Garden very much as there was such a delightful collection of colourful orchids.

I also liked the food courts which we went to. There was always a large variety of food to choose from, including my favourite Dim Sum.

Most fun was our taxi ride one evening to Chinatown. The taxi dropped us off at Food Street which had numerous food stalls lined up alongside the road as well as small restaurants.

We had a simple but delicious dinner at a coffee shop which served Dim Sum and other dishes. The bean curd and sliced pork dishes which we ordered were very good. After this, we had our favourite “Ang Tau Soong” at one of the roadside stalls.

Our after-dinner walk took us to a “Pasar Malam” as we would call it in Penang. We came across a shop which sold beautiful beaded slippers; unfortunately they had only small sizes! I wished then I didn’t have such big feet!

Our trip to Sentosa ended with a ride on the monorail. The view from its window was fantastic and I was glad I had my camera with me; however the shots didn't turn out as well as I hoped they would.

We also had some time to walk to the waterfront where I took some more pictures.

I wanted a picturet of the cable cars but they were too far away for my camera to catch clearly!!

Oh yes, you must be wondering whether we made big money at the casinos...! Well, I leave that to you to figure out!

The weather was fine throughout our holiday, being cloudy and not very hot. It was only on one afternoon that it rained. There were more temptations of course at Changi Airport with its many duty free shops. Thankfully we didn’t have much time to shop while waiting for our flight home!

Where to next? Your guess is as good as mine!
