Market Walkabout

Putu Mayung

I went for a quick walk in the wet market today.  I hadn't been there for some time and was lucky to have a parking space, something hard to find during marketing hours. It was good to see that things have returned to "normal" in the aftermath of Covid19, with most of the usual stalls back in business.  One of my favourite stalls, the one selling "putu mayung" was also back with a few customers waiting in line to be served.  This stringy rice flour "noodles" taken with shredded coconut and brown sugar make a good breakfast and also come in green colour (from the "pandan" or screw pine leaf).  It was an interesting stroll which ended up with me buying a slice of "ban chang kueh" (peanut pancake) to appease sudden hunger pangs while walking!
