Floral Fest

This year's Floral Festival was held at the Botanic Gardens Pavilion and Hawkers Complex.  I must say I was quite disappointed at the change in venue.  Previous shows had always been held at the Gardens itself which I think is a more suitable place to showcase flowers.  I remember there were so many pretty displays around the fountains in the Formal Garden and also on the lawns outside.

We visited the show only on the third last day after having anticipated huge crowds but were pleasantly surprised when we could drive right through to the venue of the show.  The orchids were indeed quite impressive and I was told that there were 56 types on display.  However, the Bonsai and Adeniums were a little wilted, after having been exposed to the hot sun for more than a week.

My maid was excitedly taking photos again with her phone; she is also a flower enthusiast and thanks to her encouragement, I ended up with three pots of croton and three bags of soil.  Well, she'll have to take care of those for me!

Unfortunately I did not have a piece of paper and pen with me to jot down the names of the orchids which I photographed; it was pretty hot and Mum was getting agitated despite her hat shading her face.

When we returned to our car which I had parked at the Hawkers' Complex, I was startled to be confronted by an elderly gentleman who angrily told me off for parking my car "in the middle of the road".  When I parked earlier, it looked like an open space with dozens of cars parked in rows and all I did was to squeeze in between two cars.  I had no idea I was parking "in the middle of the road"!

Well, I decided it was better not to argue and quietly apologised.  He was satisfied and went off.   It was really none of his business but being a civic conscious person, he felt he had to tell me off.  We didn't let that dampen our spirits and returned home to a quiet dinner.
