Yes, 9th June was the 5th day of the 5th month of the Chinese calendar and once again, it was the Festival of the Patriotic Poet! I was in town the day before to buy some "bak chang" (glutinous rice dumplings) for worship and not surprisingly, prices have risen again, starting from RM5.50 each. I bought two varieties - "pua kiam tee" (half savoury, half sweet) and "kiam" (savoury) wrapped in brown rice (more digestible than glutinous rice). Also a must for worship are the smaller "kee chang" which are eaten with palm sugar syrup.
Oh, I didn't forget to wash my face at 12 noon - the water at this time is believed to be very potent and will enhance one's beauty and general well-being! However, I forgot to store some of the water for cooking. Oh well, there's always next year .....
