Yay, the Mid-Autumn Festival is here again and I've been down to the shops to look at the mooncakes! As the traditional food of the Festival, mooncakes have developed various styles and flavours over the years but I still prefer the classic - the ones with Lotus Paste - simple and not too sweet for an after-dinner dessert. I also saw in the shops beautiful mooncake boxes which contain four or six mooncakes of different flavours, expensive of course but very nice as gifts.

Whilst in town, I also visited a shop which I know sells an array of cellophane lanterns every year. The owner of the shop was only too pleased to allow me to take photos (free advertisement!). Most of the lanterns come as fish, roosters and rabbits this year because of their significance. The fish represents wealth, prosperity and abundance, the rooster also represents good luck and prosperity, and the "moon rabbit" is of course related to the Mid-Autumn Festival, hence the popularity of lanterns in these forms! The shop is a very interesting one, it also sells fruits and sundries as well as liquor, wine, tobacco and paraphernalia for prayers.
