It's that time of the year again for rice dumplings! This year the Festival fell on Monday, 18th June which is the 5th day of the 5th month of the Chinese lunar calendar. It is indeed an auspicious date and not easily forgotten by those who remember the legend of this famous Chinese poet whose tragic life inspired the origins of the Dragon Boat Race.
However, it seems to me that it was rather quiet this year and the vegetarian outlet where I usually buy my dumplings had only a small selection of dumplings for sale. There were the traditional ones made with glutinous rice and those made with brown rice, the latter being more expensive. The dumpling you see in the picture was home made by a friend and is the savoury type, also vegetarian, and of course it was delicious!
Well, until next year when Qu Yuan shall return, enjoy your dumplings but don't overeat!!
