Aunt Swee (my 10th aunt on my father's side) is here again! She arrived from Florida two days ago and will be staying in Penang for the next three months.
Aunt Swee has led a very colourful life dabbling in the world of fashion and jewellery and has travelled extensively. Now that she's in her eighties, she has decided to slow down - a little. Her present business is an on-line jewellery shop; she sources some of her goods from the East and plans to visit Bali this coming February.
One of her reasons for being here is to see her older sister (my 8th aunt) who unfortunately two years ago fell, broke her hip and is now bedridden. Aunt Swee loves her sister very much and brings a lot of cheer and comfort to her whenever she comes to Penang. She is also a very generous woman and has given us a number of valuable gifts whenever she visits. This time she gave me two sapphire rings from her shop!
Yesterday evening she invited us and a few friends for dinner. She is very fond of "Kiam Chye Boey" which she misses when she's in the States and on her arrival immediately arranged for one big pot to be cooked for her! We had a lovely meal ending with vanilla ice cream and blueberry cake.
One big pot of "Kiam Chye Boey" for Aunt Swee
That's Aunt Swee (standing up) helping herself to the "Kiam Chye Boey". Other dishes included fried oysters, fried "kangkong", fried eggs, fried bean sprouts and chicken legs cooked in soya sauce.
That's Noh, my aunt's maid doing the serving
We shall no doubt be seeing more of Aunt Swee in the immediate future!
