During this time the shops are flooded with ever popular cookies like Kueh Bangkit, Kueh Kapit, pineapple tarts and almond cookies, to name a few. Unfortunately, every year these cookies increase in price and cost anything from RM16.00 per jar to over RM20.00 depending on which ones you select. We bought ours homemade from a family in Pulau Tikus. Here are some snaps I took. Don't they look good!
My favourite Kueh Bangkit and Pineapple tarts.
When we went to visit my aunt, we tried some pineapple tarts which my cousin had brought from K.L. They were very good indeed, much better than ours; the jam was not too sweet and the pastry melted in our mouths as soon as we popped them in. I must ask her to bring me some next year!
Almond Cookies and Kueh Kapit
The jar on the right contains “tau chung” ("pigtail", literally translated), because of its twisted shape. It's crisp and not too sweet. Sis makes them every year for distribution to relatives and friends.
Cashew nut cookies
Oh, this is a spare bottle gourd which I used for decorating our table. It's wearing a red paper "feather cap"!
Well, I wouldn't be surprised if I've gained some weight after spoiling myself with all these goodies! I have yet to stand on my weighing machine … can’t bear to see what it’s going to show me!
