Just as I thought that there is nothing much to write about, my maid suddenly fell ill. She had high fever, rashes, headaches and pain in the eyes and body. A quick trip to the Doc and I was told to take her immediately to a hospital - she may have dengue!
Of course we were all worried. We blamed the recent wet weather which probably gave birth to more mosquitoes. After the blood test at the hospital, the Doc there said it was too early to tell whether it was dengue or not. I thought it best to admit her but I was told to my shock that the hospital was full with many dengue cases still there! We had no choice but to bring her back home.
Two days later, we brought her back to the hospital for further blood tests and to our relief, the results were negative. She has more or less recovered now and is back to work.
Anyway I have decided to take further precautions by putting in additional mosquito netting over windows in various parts of the house, spraying the garden and drains with mosquito repellent and even complaining to the local council to clear up our area.
Dengue is not to be taken lightly and nowadays I hesitate to go out to the garden in the evenings. I don't want to be part of a 10-course dinner for those blood thirsty creatures!
