No One Wants to Die

Sometimes I wish people do not have to die .... because death causes so much pain. If we have read spiritual books, they tell us that life is temporary on earth and we should not cling to people or possessions.  So we  should always remain in a state of equanimity whatever happens and accept the good with the bad.  But it is easier said than done.  I think one has to be stonehearted (or extremely courageous?) if one doesn't feel a little pain or sorrow at the loss of a loved one .

I have just lost an uncle, one quite close to us.  He had been in hospital for over two months with various complications and unfortunately the doctors could not help him.  When my Mum went for dialysis (same hospital), I would pop in to say hello to him and give some words of encouragement.  I had hoped he would be able to pull through but it was not the case.  My aunt has taken it rather badly and is most depressed and stressed out.

Looking at her, I think oh God, I will also have to face the same situation one day and I hope You will give me the strength and courage when the time comes.

Here are some remarkable words from Steve Jobs which I would like to share with you.  He died in October last year.

"No one wants to die. Even people who want to go to heaven don't want to die to get there. And yet death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because Death is very likely the single best invention of Life. It is Life's change agent. It clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now the new is you, but someday not too long from now, you will gradually become the old and be cleared away. Sorry to be so dramatic, but it is quite true."

Amen.
