Come What May ...

Come what may, I see people everywhere have started to prepare for Christmas.  Christmas decorations have appeared in hotels, shopping malls, shops, houses, etc..  I must say it is heartening to note that the spirit of Christmas has not been lost despite ominous rumblings of death and destruction.  Whatever may or may not happen, people are determined to have a jolly good Christmas!

Christmas has always been my favourite time of year.  It is a time for sharing joy, for giving and forgiving, for laughter, for reuniting with family and friends. When we were small, we had this little Christmas tree which gave us much joy for several years.  I remember it was such a delight to go shopping for baubles, Christmas fairies, stars, tinsel and all sorts of decorations.  Mum and I would sit down for a few hours to dress up the tree and line the branches with cotton wool to represent snow.  When Christmas was over, we would carefully take everything down and pack them in boxes to keep for the next Christmas!  Unfortunately,  our small storeroom became overcrowded in time and we decided to give away the tree to The Little Sisters of the Poor.  I was sorry to see it go but I guess they needed the tree more than we did.  I still have a thing for Christmas trees and love to take pictures of them.

We recently attended a pre-Christmas brunch at St. Nicholas, the home of the visually impaired where I work as a volunteer.  They were pretty nice to invite Mum and I and although I don't know many members of the staff, we were made very welcome.  The afternoon's brunch began with carol singing by the staff followed by a buffet lunch.

There was a small Christmas cake which was later cut and distributed to all.  Father Christmas, who was played by a visually impaired young man, made a brief appearance to distribute presents.  Another well wisher went round distributing small red felt Christmas trees and red and white striped candy canes.

All in all, it was a pleasant afternoon with people wishing each other Merry Christmas and having a good time!

May the joy and peace of Christmas be with you all,
