Another Winter Solstice, Thank Goodness ...

By a strange coincidence, winter solstice this year fell on December 21, same day as the end of the world.  I am told that this is due to the leap year in the Chinese calendar, otherwise it would have fallen on December 22 as it normally does every year.

Well, as everyone knows, we're still around and the sun is shining bright and clear.  After all the hoo hah, some of us now have enough stock of oil, matches, rice, mineral water, biscuits and everything else needed to open a supermart!  Nevermind, we can still use all those things we have hoarded - if it's any consolation, we now don't have to make a last minute rush to buy for the Chinese New Year!

Anyway, we were ready with our colourful rice dumplings, perhaps thinking that this would be our last winter solstice!  I got ours from a stall selling kueh.  In the old days we used to make them ourselves but of course with the hectic pace of life nowadays, there is "no time".

May the sun shine brightly on you this Solstice season
May you find peace and happiness throughout the coming year
