30th May (5th day of the 5th lunar month) was once again the Festival of the Patriotic Poet! Everybody knows about the legend behind this Festival and while temples and some homes still offer glutinous rice dumplings to the deities on this day, it was a good opportunity for dumpling lovers to eat their fill! As usual, I bought mine from a vegetarian outlet - they were of two varieties - the savoury one (brown in colour) and the half savoury half sweet one (see pic). After prayer, we settled down to sample these dumplings and found to our disappointment that they were not that good. I shall remember not to buy from that particular shop next time! I didn't try standing an egg at 12 noon but did remember to wash my face with tap water at that time for good luck!
