Last Tuesday, 8th December was my 8th aunt's 93rd birthday! There is no occasion more befitting to celebrate than this one as she is very dear to us all. Unfortunately, due to a fall some two years ago which broke her hip bone, 8th aunt has been confined to her bed. She was a very good cook and was wellknown for her "popia" and "lor bak". She would call us relatives to her house every Sunday when she would cook various dishes for us. She loved watching us eat and ate very little herself. Such was her kind and generous nature. She remains very alert to this day and is able to recognise each one of us and remember our names!
Aunt Swee (her younger sister from the States) was the one who organised this birthday lunch for her. She loves her sister very much and brings much cheer to her everytime she flies in. The lunch table was overflowing with food - "mee koo", birthday mee, "huat kuey", chicken curry puffs, ice cream, custard apples (from a cousin's tree) - to name a few. It was a very good lunch indeed!
After lunch, a cousin brought out the birthday cake and placed it on 8th aunt's lap. Someone lit a candle and we sang the birthday song. I could see that 8th aunt was very happy though nowadays she doesn't talk much.
A HAPPY BIRTHDAY AGAIN TO YOU, 8TH AUNT AND MAY THE GOOD LORD SHOWER HIS BLESSINGS ON YOU ALWAYS!
Oh, I almost forgot! One last word or "meow" from Mai Mai, the resident cat who refused to be left out of the birthday celebration!
