Never Ending Stress - 4

Mum has become a great favourite with the nurses.  They love to talk to her and listen to her sing - old favourites, devotional songs, even nursery rhymes...!  I get the feeling they'll miss her when she leaves the hospital.

Meantime the doc still seems reluctant to discharge her and is not happy that she is not eating as much as he would like her to.  Mum has always been a small eater and getting her to eat the plain hospital food needs a lot of coaxing from us.  Luckily a cup of ice cream or jelly sometimes comes with her meals, so that acts as an incentive for her to eat!  On one occasion, she even ordered the nurse to get her two cups of ice cream and was furious when her request was turned down!  This evening Mum ate a little bit more, after having been told off by the doc.  He told me she must eat, even if I have to force the food down her throat!  I guess I'll have to make lots of jelly when Mum goes home!

Another dialysis session tomorrow ... I really wish she needn't have to do this but age has not spared her kidneys and dialysis is the only solution. It makes me sad when I think back to last year when she was running around with us in Sentosa, happy and carefree ... and now she's almost an invalid.  Life can deal out some cruel blows and often when least expected ...
