Are You Prepared?

Sinister emails have been going around for some time about the end of the world on December 21 when the Mayan calendar ends.  We are assailed with prophecies and predictions of catastrophies which will wipe out all civilization.  There is yet another e-mail where US scientists predict 3 days of darkness beginning December 23 due to an alignment of the universe, when the sun and earth will align for the first time.

The 3-day blackout is at the moment the greatest cause for concern among my friends.  Some have taken it very seriously, while others think it's all a hoax.   Those who believe it will happen have advised me to store up for the three days and have given me a list of things I should get.  If you are one of those who believe, the list below might come in useful.

Torchlight (Get at least two)
Batteries (for the torchlights)
Candles
Matches
Oil
Foodstuff like rice, biscuits, instant mee, chocolate, etc.
Mineral water
Winter clothing and blankets
Charcoal

I was musing over all this the other day.  If there is going to be a total blackout for three days (obviously the sun has been blocked out), then it's going to be very, very, VERY cold (worse in western countries).  Our water will become frozen and there will be no water to drink. What happens when we go to the loo and can't flush?  Yuk!  Imagine the stink in there!  Then again, if all water has been frozen, how are we going to cook our rice, instant mee, etc.? Aha, that's why we need to store up on the dry stuff.  Somebody asked whether there would still be electricity; frankly, I don't know, so keep those candles, matches and charcoal ready!

There will be total chaos at airports, railway stations, etc. as all modes of transport will be grounded.  Then again, who would be brave enough to travel during this time?  We have been advised to stay calm, huddle together to keep warm and pray, pray, pray.  Can we when our teeth are chattering from the cold??  Then again, what about our Christmas preparations?  No Christmas this year?  Oh dear, what a dreary thought.

So after the three days are over, what happens next?  If we are still alive, we'll probably try to pry open our frozen front door to take a peep outside .... what can we expect to see?  A brand new world?

These are just some of my thoughts.  It hasn't happened yet, but it's sending shivers up my spine the more I think of it.  Will our all merciful God allow this to happen?  Well, there's only one way to find out and that's to stick around when December comes!
