Colours of Deepavali

Deepavali (The Festival of Lights) is just round the corner (Nov.10).  This ancient festival is celebrated yearly in Penang by the Hindu community and spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness, knowledge over ignorance, good over evil and hope over despair.

I managed to capture these two beautiful "kolams" done by an art academy in a shopping mall. Traditionally made from rice flour, kolams (also known as "rangoli") are drawn on the ground in front of houses and are thought to bring prosperity to homes and drive away evil spirits.

May the Festival of Lights light up your life with joy, good luck and prosperity!
