We are in the midst of the annual "Hungry Ghost Festival" which is celebrated during the 7th lunar month and which will come to an end on 31st August. As usual, a huge effigy of the God of Hades had been installed at our market with an abundance of offerings.. Beautifully decorated jossticks had been lined up at the entrance and were already burning when I arrived at the market. They never fail to attract me as they have been so artistically done. On the other side of the road is a makeshift theatre where stage operas and other musical performances are provided as entertainment for the departed. Roadside food stalls have also been set up for those who come to pray and need a bite. Many superstitions and taboos abound during this time, still this Festival is celebrated on a grand scale every year and attracts many tourists.
