Happy Winter Solstice

It is once again the shortest day of the year - or the longest night - yay, it's Winter Solstice (Dec.22), a most significant festival celebrated by the Chinese all over the world!  So here we are, indulging in our "tang yuan" or glutinuous rice balls in syrup.  The round shape of the balls is synonymous with reunion, wholeness or unity, so winter solstice is actually a time for family togetherness and harmony. This festival is also called the "Asian birthday" among the Chinese because it is believed that the passing of this day marks the start of a new solar term, the world has grown one year older after this point, and that means you and I have also grown one year older!  Perhaps a depressing thought but still, there's no reason NOT to celebrate!

Here's wishing us all a new birth and all things good for the year ahead!
