Amidst storms, floods and of course Covid19, it is not surprising that the Winter Solstice Festival this year (21 Dec) is on a low key. On the home front, most of us just bought some tang yuan (glutinous rice flour balls cooked in syrup) as offerings to the deities. It is also very sad to see that the market place is not bubbling with life on this special day like it used to be, with people queuing up to buy colourful tang yuan. Instead, people now are queuing up to have their booster shots! So so sad.
Hopefully next year will be a better year when families can get together and celebrate this traditional festival like in the old days. Wouldn't it be great if we could turn the clock back?
Incidentally, this festival also serves as a reminder that we are now a year older - and wiser, I hope.
Happy Winter Solstice!
