Yes, the "Ghost" month (7th month of the Chinese lunar calendar) is here again and the Hungry Ghost Festival or Zhong Yuan Jie is in full swing now. For Penangites, this festival is nothing new and is observed annually at most temples where the names of departed loved ones are displayed together with offerings of food and fruit. This is the time when families come to offer prayers and pay respects to their departed loved ones.

At our Sai Centre, we also held a memorial service for departed souls on Sunday, 23rd August. Lotus candles with the names of the departed were lighted and offered at the altar by family members. The prayer session included the singing of Sai hymns and recitation of Tibetan Buddhist mantras.
The festival ends on 12th September.
