Yesterday I went to Phor Tay Temple for prayers and was surprised to find that they had set up a separate table of offerings in the prayer hall. When I asked one of the devotees what it was for, she told me that they were praying to the Moon that night! I had thought the temple had given up this practice some time ago but I was delighted that they still carry on this age old tradition. Unfortunately due to a prior commitment, I was unable to witness the prayers that night - I'm sure it went on well despite the threat of rain; in fact it did rain later and the moon was obscured from sight. As I mentioned elsewhere, Mum relentlessly carried on praying to the moon every year until ill health prevented her from doing so. She would have loved to be at P.T. Temple for the prayers last night but I guess she's having her own celebration in the heavens, perhaps with the Moon Goddess!
