These pretty containers or "kamcheng" as they are known in Hokkien dialect, were used in Peranakan Chinese wedding ceremonies to carry food and sweet meats to the bridal couple throughout the 12 days of the wedding celebrations. These containers have various decorative motifs such as butterflies and flowers which signify marital bliss and fidelity. The background colour of pink signifies happiness, longevity, youthfulness and innocence.
