Return of the Patriotic Poet

Vegetarian dumpling

How time flies and thanks to our hero, Qu Yuan, it's Duan Wu Jie or the Rice Dumpling ("Bak Chang") Festival once again (25 June)!

This year, I opted for vegetarian brown rice Kiam Chang (savoury dumplings), brown rice Pua Kiam Tee ( half savoury, half sweet) and Kee Chang with red bean filling (sweet).  These veg dumplings are probably not so mouth watering as non-veg ones as their filling consists mainly of mushrooms, gluten, chestnuts and nuts.
I had a pleasant surprise however when a friend presented me with two non-veg dumplings with meat and egg yolk inside. They were of course very tasty and very filling!  One is enough if you want a quick lunch!

Nowadays brown rice dumplings are more popular as they are a healthy alternative to glutinous rice ones which are not so easily digestible.  Incidentally, these triangle-shaped dumplings symbolize wealth as they are similar in shape to ancient Chinese gold and silver ingots.

So enjoy your dumplings and count your blessings!  By the way, I didn't forget to wash my face from the tap at 12 noon for good luck and a lovely complexion!
